CZ-82 Out of box experience

I recently aquired a CZ-82 from AIM surplus...a 220 FRN deal to my door (C&R). Great little pistol...get one!

So...
Don't keep us in suspense... tell us more! Why (in your opinion) should we get one?

Well, I have not shot it yet, however for the price of 220 FRNs to my door, it seems like a good value. It has an amazing SA trigger. No creep, very crisp. Fit and finish are dead on, and condition is VG+ to Excellent. It is a military version of the CZ-83. These Slovakian guys know how to make pistols!

Its the best surplus deal on the market...IMHO.

I fired a buddies CZ-82 and was instantly impressed at the accuracy, reliability and value. So, take a look! I can easily CCW this with a IWB holster.

I might add that when these dry up...they will go up in price...this has been the case for every Milsurp I have purchased over the years. Not a guarantee, but could be an inflation hedge if you just buy and hold...just my .02 FRN's

says you have to have an FFL on file first. I also looked and could not tell if an FOID is sufficient for purchase. will need to call them. you say you shot this, how does the weight compare to a small glock (web site says 1.76 pds, not sure if that is loaded or not, I suspect unloaded)?

You need at least a C&R FFL, which you can get after fee and paperwork.

Or you can go through a regular FFL guy in your area. Call AIM, they probably have an FFL in your area if you don't go the C&R route.

The CZ-82 is all metal, no polymer frame like the glock. It is probably heavier than the glock. When my ammo comes, I will weigh the loaded weapon and post the weight.

Thank you. I read that and thought the same thing. Slovakian ≠ Czech

Yep, CZ factory is in what is now called the Czech Republic. However, Slovakia does/did use the CZ-82 for military officers. Thanks for the clarification.

So, when referring to people who live in The Czech Republic, they could be called Czech and those who live in Slovakia could be called Slovakian. I am not aware if Slovakia makes their own firearms, they probably use a lot of Czech firearms made by CZ.

The CZ-82 is now C&R because it was built by a country that no longer exists, Czechoslovakia. So, one could say those Czechoslovakians made a nice pistol, however, the CZ was made by the Czechs, so more accurate would be to say that the Czechs make nice pistols, but it all depends on the time frame. If I am correct, the people of Slovakia probably didn't have much to do with making of the CZ, unless they commuted from the areas of what is now Slovakia to work in the CZ factory. It could be possible that some of the designers at CZ were/are of Slovakian heritage, but we don't know that for sure. It is probably safer to say that those Czechs make nice pistols, as that is more current. Gee, sounds like a nice place the land of Czechs and Slovakians, I wonder if they would allow an American to immigrate? The Slovakians and Czechs sound like hard working people!

Cheers!

i love my cz.

but theres 2 things im concerned about.

1.i dont know how readily availible the rounds will be.it doesn't use the standard luger round of 9x19.it uses 9x18.the mak round.

2.it has a fixed barrel.it doesnt kick to bad, but,if the barrel gets f**ked.you pretty much have to throw it away.

i also love the octagonal groove inside the barrel.its an easy clean.tears apart easy too.

The rounds are easily available. If you are talking about some SHTF fantasy:

1. You will not be engaging hoards of zombies.
1a. If you are forced in engage larges groups of zombies, you will die. You can talk all rambo, but you would still die in that situation. Thus rendering your ammo concerns meaningless.

2. If you are afraid of relying on russian imports and your fear is that they may become banned or restricted, that is a valid concern. Some domestic ammo is available, but your best bet would be some reloading components and a press.

You can make Mak brass from 9mm brass...

So, you have brass, and can cast your bullets and you are set...

Re: CZ-82 Out of box experience

I don't think even a ban on Russian imports will be an issue. If needed, someone domestic will fill the void. I've got Cor-Bon 9x18.

For SHTF you only need enough rounds to reach your first re-supply point.

CZ-82 Just weighed mine loaded at 2.3 lbs. Had it for about a year. Have fired hundreds of rounds of S & B and Silver Bear through it and love it's accuracy and handling.

Corbon and Hornady both make 9x18. It's growing in popularity so I don't think it will be a problem.

2.3lbs!!! Damn. Makes me appreciate the polymer framed pistols.

I really like my CZ-52, I may look into a CZ-82. It would seem that the quality/price ratio is favorable.

I prefer the heavier ones, as they dont jump in your hands so much.

Re: CZ-82 Out of box experience

Isn't the CZ-82 an almost clone of the Walther PPK? I've never had the former but had a PPK and was dissapointed. It has a decocker that, unlike better designed guns like Sigs, doesn't spring back up to the "ready-to-fire-in-double-action" mode when released. I like handguns that go bang when I need them.
But if you can live with that flaw (I can't), the PPK is a fine little handgun. The CZ-82 probably is too. My most accurate rifle is a CZ.

Re: CZ-82 Out of box experience

I pickedone up from Cabelas in Hammond Indiana a few months back for $190. Is my first auto loader. Love the accuracy and simplicity. At 15 yards I basically can shoot 12 shots in rapid succession (quick target acquisition on follow up due to heft of gun) in a nice 8" group. Brass ammo at my local shop is $30 for a box of fifty, but has Wolf ammo for $18. I was buying Silver Bear Ammo from Cabelas a few months back for $13.

Been happy ever since.

You are aware that you are comparing a cannon to a peashooter? 7.62x25 will send that .30 cal pellet at almost 2000 fps and with steel core loads will shatter a cinder block. Both are fine for what they do but it's like comparing a bulldozer to a Porche.

I also have a cz82, I've fired maybe 500 rds from it and never a problem. Silver bears for practice, Hornady's loaded in the mag for just in case.

I love that gun and the price can not be beat.

CorBon no longer loads for the 9X18, hasn't for a while but Glaser loads their excellent Pow'RBall load for it.

Which is exactly why I bought both. Different tools for different jobs.
